eBook Educators Group

where educators come to learn from one another

I thought I would let fellow e-reader lovers know that today at MPOW I had a brown bag lunch called E-Reader Roundup. It was for employees and 18 showed up. It was a tight squeeze in the Information Center but a lot of fun. I brought my Nook Color and Sony Reader Pocket Edition. Some folks brought their e-readers: iPad (I know - a tablet but tech services brought it in to show the e-reader functions), new Kindle, old Kindle, Kindle DX, Pandigital, Sony - so we had a nice variety. The majority of people attended to learn about the e-readers for self-purchase or holiday gifts. I made a comparison chart on some features and gave it as a handout. The event was fun and interesting and I told the group I may offer a bb lunch next year on e-book formats and sources.

Sorry - I don't yet have a handout for the app event. I've asked others in the building to share some apps and I think about 5 out of the 13 signed up have agreed. Once I have a list of what they shared I will be happy to post it here.

Anyway to make your handout available to the group?

Thanks. Love the app sharing lunch. We are currently scheduling PD for our teachers on technology and both of these would make great sessions.

Thanks again for sharing and good luck with your upcoming events.

Follow-up - On March 7 I'm presenting another Brown Bag Lunch Event in the Information Center called "Your Favorite Apps" and I've asked people to share smart phone apps. I've also invited others to attend if they have new smart phones or just want to learn. You know I will be mentioning the e-reader apps!

Please feel free to use my chart. I just updated it to include the iPad as a device that will work with Overdrive library books (an app is now available). The chart is available from this webpage on the right hand side:

Do you mind sharing your comparison chart? Thanks.

Love this. I might do this with our students during Teen Tech Week in March. We have students with Nooks, iPads, Kindles, etc of their own and LOTS of students that are interested in getting them.
