I just canceled my Kindle 2 order

When Amazon announced the availability of the Kindle 2 for international customers, including the Netherlands where I live, I was excited. Finally we too would get full access to the Kindle store via Whispernet. Like I wrote in this blog, I sold my BeBook and pre-ordered a Kindle 2.But, the information that arrived afterwards cooled down my excitement and enthusiasm very rapidly. I had heard…See More

I sold my Bebook 1 pre-ordered a Kindle 2 international

When I bought my BeBook last March, it was my first eBook reader. Amazon didn't sell the DX yet and Kindles were available only in the US. I was happy with the BeBook even though it didn't have whispernet, notes, search. I did have folder though. After the DX arrived I went through the trouble of ordering one through a company that offers a service where you can have Amazon ship it to their address in the US and they then ship it to you in the Netherlands (for a fee of course).I am still happy…See More

Will DeLamater in this weeks The Kindle Chronicles podcast #48

Will DeLamater is being interviewed in this weeks The Kindle Chronicles podcast (TKC 48 ). He talks about the DX and its use in the educational sector. He explains how the Kindle could save a lot of paper at universities even though the DX in practice isn't always as good as the Amazon ads would make you to expect.

The interview starts at about 11 minutes into the episode.

Screencast on using KindlePedia

View the video on YouTube (if you like it please leave a rating at YouTube) I created a screencast about how you can use Kindlepedia to create Mobipocket files.

In the screencast I also explain how I created a scriptlet that you can put on the bookmark bar of your browser.

With that you are always only one click away from creating Kindlepedia eBook.

Pierre, Good news! The Kindlepedia will now support the Dutch Wikipedia. Just insert a URL of a Wikipedia article that begins with "nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/[your topc here] (example: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabriek) and the Kindlepedia will return your article. You need to use the full URL so the Kindlepedia knows to go to the Dutch version. Let me know what you think! I posted this on your blog as well--please get the word out!

You are right that I am not a Kindle skeptic, but I do believe that the Kindle has been the needed catalyst to get people (in the US at least) to understand the ebook equation, both financial and personal. I think that schools will recognize this equation more rapidly than might otherwise be expected due to the budget shortfalls that schools now face. This will be good for kids and for those budgets, and these two things don't often go together!

Pierre, welcome aboard! I notice that you have an interest in education and from what I can get Google to translate from your web page into English ;-) I see that you are also into technology. I know that the Bebook ereader originates in the Netherlands. How do you see ereaders affecting education in your country?

In the US, we have a huge reading gap, especially in the older grades. I suspect that your kids do better. Any thoughts about reading and ebooks would be much appreciated!
