Crazed Nook screen

Posted on October 14, 2011 at 12:12pm 0 Comments

I just got another nook classic back with a screen failure. I went down to question the student who returned it.
His answer: "No I didn't drop it, no I didn't put anything heavy on it, yes it was on the top in my book bag. I just opened the cover and it was broken."…

Broken E-readers?

Posted on January 20, 2011 at 2:27pm 7 Comments

I really hate to bring this one up but it is a problem for me.  Let me start out by saying Barnes and Noble has been wonderful about replacing any Nook that has broken. That being said, I'm waiting to send my sixth nook back. All of the problems have been screen failure. All of the students except one have said they were very careful with the device, only one admitted to dropping theirs, but that one said the device was in the  padded case and that it wasn't a serious drop. All of the kids…

Screen Failure

I think I've finally figured out why I was having so many screen failures on our nooks. I'll be sending our 5th of 16 nooks in for replacement. I love the case I bought from M-edge accessories. It's a well padded, snug case but I think a design flaw is that the power cord fits best in the front pocket. I'm asking my students to transfer that part of… Continue

Hi Marianna,

Will DeLamater recommended that I contact you.  I am finishing up my masters degree in library science and my dissertation project is on using e-readers with students for instructional purposes.  I am interviewing educators about their experience with this.  Is this something that you would be interested in helping me with?  Just let me know!  Thanks!!

I think digital text will certainly be part of any tech oriented school! I love reading Kindle books on my iPhone, and Google books as well. Very convenient, supports spur of the moment reading in a way nothing else can. I wrote a research brief on how font size affects reading rate; you can get it here--might help.
