Launched a 2nd Grade Pilot Kindle Program Today!

Based on the success of our middle school Kindle program (each of our 8th grade students now have their own Kindle to use for their Literature class plus our 7th graders are using Kindles in their Literature class as well) I had wanted to see how we could use the Kindles in the lower grades.

I recently read in The Reading Teacher Magazine, an article by Lotta C. Larson, "Digital Readers: The Next Chapter in E-Book Reading and Response." I did a bit of searching to see what else she…

Kathy's Kindle Crew-What Students Have to Say About Kindles

Posted on April 9, 2010 at 3:29pm 0 Comments

These comments are from students in our RTI (Reading Through Intervention) Program that their teacher recently shared with me. All of the students thought Kindles make them feel they are using modern technology rather than just using a book. Each of the new users also agree they like to read with the larger font size. Kindles make reading exciting and fun.

Johnny commented, "I like all of the different choices of books on the Kindle and it's easier for me to read with the…

Posted on April 7, 2010 at 12:05pm 1 Comment

I thought I would share some feedback I received from several 8th grade students this morning concerning their usage of the Amazon Kindle this past school year. It's wonderful to see students embracing this new form of reading! Here's what they had to say:

Mickey: "I read much faster using the Kindle and I basically just like it!" This has been the general consensus from students as well as faculty members using the Kindle.

Riley: "I like it because it's a…

Thanks. I looked into that. You can use a gift card, but you still have to have a credit card registered to the Kindle. Amazon will just take the funds from the gift card first before taking from the credit card. Am I correct in thinking that every school corporation that uses Kindles put in a credit card for each one? Is this the only way?

Hi Kathy, Glad to see you here at the Ning! Even though there are only a few of us right now, I believe that there will be more "Kindle Educators" before long. Please feel free to use this site to start a "group" for your teachers there in Seneca or start a discussion about something you are working on. You know that I will respond!
