Hi Brian -- Our PTO funded the purchase of six Nooks and six sturdy Nook covers (!49 plus 39.99 each), and we have been very pleased with the results. We began in Feb. by only allowing check-outs while in the library, but after two weeks we progressed to check-outs of a week at a time. All of our students and their parents must sign an acceptable use form/liability type agreement before students are allowed to check out. I spent $100 loading some new books and then loaded some more free classics to total 38 books on each of the six Nooks at this time. Kids LOVE them! We keep a hold list in our Destiny circulation system and everything has gone very smoothly. We got publicity from our school division and from our local newspaper. It's been a very positive experience. Here's a link to an article on our school division's website:
Brian, there are folks here that can help you with Nook or Kindle questions. Kathy Parker and Buffy Hamilton are good ones to contact about Kindle, and Kathy Burnette or Marianna DeMott about Nooks. The Nook does two things that the Kindle does not: 1. allows book borrowing through the public library, and 2) allows you to restrict book buying with a password. Otherwise, pretty similar.
Hi Brian, and welcome to the group! Are you investigating the use of ereaders at your school? Are you or the kids reading on the iPhone?
See if there is a group you would like to join--this is a way to expedite communication between people with the same interests. And we'd love it if you'd upload a profile photo--go to settings under your name on the right and the option to upload is right at the top!
